Economic development authorities (EDA's) are created to
fulfill a community need for government assistance to promote
economic growth in distressed areas and in times when growth
is dormant or in decline. EDA's are also created to
assist in improving work force needs within the business
community.
The Pipestone County EDA is a not-for-profit economic development
authority created by a joint powers agreement between all of the cities in Pipestone County and the
Board of County Commissioners. Our EDA Board is
comprised of two county commissioners and one individual from
each of the seven city members (generally the mayor or their
designee).
Our staff provides application and technical assistance to all area and regional financial programs and coordinates local resources for business.
We also provide services relating to the attraction, retention and expansion of enterprises in Pipestone County.
Tax Abatement is a viable tool for many businesses and the Pipestone County EDA can assist with the applications and hearings to complete the approval process. When bonding is necessary
the EDA can assist qualified consultants in the bonding
process.
The Pipestone County EDA has a revolving
loan fund for which eligible applicants can receive short-term
loans to assist with gap financing or other necessity where
traditional lending is not complete or available.
Eligible applicants include any individual, partnership or
corporation located or relocating in Pipestone County.

One of the
many community projects we are
actively working to develop is
the creation of a national or
regional "heritage area".
A national
heritage area, as described by
the National Park Service, is an
area designated by Congress
where natural, cultural,
historic and scenic resources
combine to form a cohesive,
nationally distinctive landscape
arising from the patterns of
human activity shaped by
geography.
